Kinemetrics, Inc.
Ogie Kuraica
222 Vista Avenue
Pasadena, CA 91107

When OYO Corporation purchased Kinemetrics, Inc. in May 1991, it acquired a relatively small but powerful company with an impressive history. With fewer than 70 employees worldwide, Kinemetrics is the global leader in earthquake instrumentation solutions and a major player in the field of earthquake research. The equipment it produces provides data and information to scientists and engineers who are involved in making our world a safer place to live. Some of Kinemetrics' instruments are used to monitor the seismic safety of many of the world's wonders, including India's Taj Mahal, Greece's Parthenon, Egypt's Sphinx, and famous structures in the U.S. such as New York's Statue of Liberty and San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

Puerto Rico Strong Motion Program
P.O. Box 9041
Mayagüez, PR 00681

The Puerto Rico Strong Motion Program (PRSMP) is under the Civil Engineering & Surveying Department at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. The program began in the mid-1970's with the installation of eight free-field stations and an instrumented building on the island. Today Puerto Rico is one of the most seismically instrumented regions in the world. The main objective of the program is to minimize fatalities and economic losses on the island due to earthquakes. This is done by determining the acceleration records for which buildings should be designed, supporting related research, supporting the Puerto Rico Seismic Network with real-time strong-motion data, and supporting emergency agencies.
