Dear SSA Members:
The new SSA strategic plan is now posted on the website at:
Many of you contributed to the development of this plan and I hope you take pride in the result.
It was a year-long process that began with a recommendation from the Board of Directors which led to the engagement of consultants Cate Bower and Marybeth Fidler of Cygnet Strategy LLC. The SSA Executive Committee worked with Cate and Marybeth to identify a representative list of 20 “stakeholders” for them to interview about SSA.
The results of these interviews formed the foundation of a member survey. Nearly one-half of SSA’s current members responded to this survey, an extraordinary response. The high level of satisfaction with SSA that members expressed was also notable. The survey also revealed many challenges and many important ideas for growth.
The survey results were presented to the Board and several key leaders in a planning retreat the weekend before the annual meeting in San Diego. Our consultants helped this group craft the basic plan. After the retreat, the retreat participants had an opportunity to think about the document and ratify it by online survey before being approved by the SSA Directors.
The next stage is to work on implementing concrete objectives with short-term strategies. That process is now underway and you will hear more about it as we set priorities for new initiatives and also welcome your suggestions.
SSA has been very important to me since I attended my first meeting many years ago. I feel fortunate to have been able to participate in this challenging and important work to position the Society for future challenges and opportunities.
