Applied Seismologist Permanent position in the Science & Technology sector at IMS in Stellenbosch (50km from Cape Town), Western Cape in South Africa.

We are looking for an ambitious young graduate with a Honours/MSc/PhD degree from a respected South African university in one of the following subjects: Geology, Physics, Geophysics or Applied Maths. Candidates should have good mathematical abilities as well as an interest and ability in scientific programming. The ideal candidate should be able to work well in a small team, be energetic, flexible and a self-starter.

The position available is in our mine seismology group, which uses recorded seismic data from mines around the world to advise our customers of stability concerns for the different underground working areas. This role involves customer interaction, scientific analyses and reporting. It also involves research on micro-earthquake prediction and work on numerical static stress modeling codes.

Skills/qualifications required: * * * * Honors/MSc/PhD in Geology/Physics/Geophysics/Appl Maths Aptitude and interest in scientific analysis and programming (any language) Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English South African citizenship.
