The Infrastructure and Environment Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Project Tsunami Seismologist/Engineer for immediate employment in the Los Angeles office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a suitable education and preferably some experience in Seismology or Hydraulic Engineering, specific to tsunami modeling. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.
The incumbent can look forward to projects including tsunami hazard mapping in various regions of the world.
The minimum qualifications for this position include: • Candidate must have a Masters or PhD degree in Geophysics or in Hydraulic Engineering with specialization in tsunami modeling • Candidate must have strong verbal and written English communications skills • Candidate must have basic skills in computer programming in Fortran, C or scripting languages Incumbent responsibilities include: • Develops models for the generation of tsunamis by earthquakes or landslides • Performs calculations of tsunami wave propagation, inundation and runup • Develops probabilistic and scenario estimates of tsunami hazard • Performs research into the enhancement of tsunami hazard modeling • Develops fragility models describing the impact of tsunamis on structures • This position requires the flexibility to serve as a cross-disciplinary resource to best serve the needs of URS Corporation
