The 2008 Annual Meeting will provide a stimulating exchange of research on a wide range of topics with like-minded professionals from all over the world. Oral presentations, poster sessions, exhibits, field trips, business meetings and social gatherings all provide members the opportunity to meet and share with their peers.
This year's meeting is being hosted by Los Alamos National Laboratory in cooperation with other Rio Grande institutions including New Mexico Tech, Sandia National Laboratory and University of Texas at El Paso. . Charlotte Rowe is heading up the Program Committee. Many thanks to their teams for all the effort in putting together another exciting annual meeting.
Organized by members of Western States Seismic Policy Council (WSSPC),Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC), Central United States Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC),Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup (CREW), Emergency Preparedness for Industry and Commerce Council (EPICC), and Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) with support from FEMA, USGS, NIST, and NSF. Goals of the conference are to provide attendees with a better understanding of the scientific, engineering, and social research that underlies our ability to assess, mitigate, and respond to earthquakes across the United States and to exchange ideas about tools for earthquake hazard and risk reduction, successful programs, lessons from past earthquakes, and ways to build resiliency.

The 4th Canadian Conference on «GeoHazards» follows the conference held in 2003 in Edmonton. This series of conferences is an initiative of the Engineering Geology Division of the Canadian Geotechnical Society. The goal of the Conference is to establish the state of knowledge regarding natural hazards in Canada, particularly those of geological origin. All relevant themes will be considered, from snow avalanches to mud flows, from submarine mass movements and tsunamis to rock avalanches, and others. We plan to address all relevant issues from processes, consequences and also scientific and social aspects of risk management. This Conference also provides a unique opportunity to hold special sessions on topics of interests proposed by participants.

The theme of the meeting is Dynamics in Earth Systems. All researchers using quantitative methods to study evolving Earth systems are invited. Studies that integrate field observations, laboratory experiments, and theoretical models are especially welcome. Particular focus will be given to physical problems where new quantitative theories offer the possibility of significant progress in our understanding of environmental processes. These problems include fracture, ranging from ice sheets to earthquakes; geophysical fluid dynamics, ranging from internal and surface flows to oceanic and atmospheric dynamics; and physical aspects of the Earth’s biological, chemical, and climatic evolution.
