Georgia Tech scientist takes helm of top seismology journal
July 23 – Zhigang Peng, an associate professor at Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, has been named the next editor-in-chief at Seismological Research Letters (SRL). Peng will take over at SRL from Jonathan Lees, a professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who is stepping down as SRL editor-in-chief as he assumes the chairmanship at UNC's Department of Geological Sciences.
The bimonthly SRL serves as the seismology community’s general forum for informal communication and is evolving into a medium for fast-breaking analysis of recent major earthquake and tsunami events. The international journal features articles on topics of broad seismological interest, special earthquake reports and opinion pieces on current topics in seismology.
