This electronic supplement contains Tables S1 and S2. In Table S1, the classification of the fault-normal components of 221 records from the Next Generation Attenuation-West2 Project (NGA-West2) database with peak ground velocity (PGV) > 30 cm/s is given according to Baker (2007) and the proposed methodology. Table S2 contains the proposed pulse indicator (PI) index for 91 records characterized as pulse-like by Baker (2007) calculated for (a) the Mavroeidis and Papageorgiou (2003; hereafter, M&P) wavelet and (b) the Daubechies wavelet.
Table S1. Classification of considered records. Columns 1–5 correspond to fields in the NGA-West2 flatfile, columns 6 and 7 give the PI index according to (a) Baker (2007) and (b) proposed methodology, and columns 8 and 7 give the classification of records as pulse-like, non-pulse-like, or ambiguous, according to (a) Baker (2007) and (b) proposed methodology.
Table S2. Proposed PI index for the 91 records characterized as pulse-like by Baker (2007) calculated for (a) the M&P wavelet and (b) the Daubechies wavelet. Columns 1–5 correspond to fields in the NGA-West2 flatfile, and columns 6 and 7 give the PI index calculated for the M&P wavelet and the Daubechies wavelet. Values in bold show records that are classified as ambiguous by the proposed methodology. All other records are classified as pulse-like.
