Electronic Supplement to
Introduction to an Open Community Infrasound Dataset from the Actively Erupting Sakurajima Volcano, Japan

by David Fee, Akihiko Yokoo, and Jeffrey B. Johnson

The video in this supplement shows time-synced visual and infrasound data of two explosions at Sakurajima Volcano, Japan, between 19 July 2013 02:40 and 03:10 UTC. The data are sped up by 40×, and the visual data are compiled from photos acquired every 5 s. Explosions emanate from the active Showa crater of Sakurajima Volcano. Infrasound and video data are from station KUR, ~3.5 km from Showa crater. The colors overlain on the infrasound data represent time periods of coherent infrasound signals (high cross correlation across the infrasound network) and clearly coincide with both explosions. Vent sealing occurs between each explosion; when the explosion begins, it is accompanied by strong infrasound signals that last for several minutes.
