This electronic supplement provides instructions for CAPjoint, a computer code package for joint inversion of earthquake source parameters with both local and telesemic waves, including information on obtaining the software.
CAPjoint works in the same way as CAP (Cut and Paste; Zhu and Helmberger, 1996) except that CAP only works with local waveforms (three-component full waveforms segmented into Pnl, Rayleigh, and Love waves), whereas CAPjoint works with both local waveforms and telesemic body waves (P or S waves). Users are recommended to use the CAP code first before using this joint inversion code.
Because of the complexity of teleseismic SV waves, only teleseismic SH waves are used in CAPjoint. Moreover, only the vertical component of teleseismic P waves is used in CAPjoint because the radial component of telesemic P waves is weaker and sensitive to crustal structure beneath seismic stations.
