The 21 May 2014 Mw 5.9 Bay of Bengal Earthquake: Macroseismic Data Reveals a High-Stress-Drop Event

by Stacey S. Martin and Susan E. Hough

For the earthquakes discussed in the main article, we present tabulated summaries of macroseismic effects at 310 locations for the 21 May 2014 Mw 5.9 Bay of Bengal earthquake (Table S1), at 711 locations for the 19 September 2011 Mw 6.9 Sikkim earthquake (Table S2), and at 9 locations for the 14 June 1934 MGR 7.0 Balochistan earthquake (Table S3). Table S4 provides a description of the sources.

Tables

Table S1. Macroseismic observations for the 21 May 2014 Mw 5.9 Bay of Bengal earthquake (Countries: BD, Bangladesh; IN, India, MY, Myanmar, NP, Nepal). Event intensities were interpreted using the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS; Grünthal, 1998).

Table S2. Macroseismic observations for the 19 September 2011 Mw 6.9 Sikkim earthquake (Countries: BD, Bangladesh; BT, Bhutan; CN, China; IN, India; NP, Nepal). Event intensities were interpreted using the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS; Grünthal, 1998).

Table S3. Macroseismic observations for the 14 June 1934 MGR 7.0 Balochistan earthquake (CY = Country, Lat = Latitude (North), Long = Longitude (East), Q = Quality). (MGR, Gutenberg–Richter magnitude)

Table S4. Newspaper sources used in the compilations of Table S1 and Table S2, listed by city and country.
