Electronic Supplement to
Monitoring the Earthquake Activity in an Area with Shale Gas Potential in Southeastern New Brunswick, Canada

by Maurice Lamontagne, Denis Lavoie, Shutian Ma, Kenneth B. S. Burke, and Ian Bastow

This electronic supplement contains lists of earthquake locations and focal depths in southeastern New Brunswick and in the vicinity of the Stoney Creek Oil and Gas Field, interpretation of the sonic log of velocities in well A-67, a velocity model between the 20140410 epicenter and stations SRNB and WCNB, and events used in the velocity inversion.

Tables

Table S1. Focal depths of mN ≥ 2.8 southeastern New Brunswick events (located between latitudes 45.0° and 46.9° N and longitudes 66.5° and 63.0° W). g refers to the focal depth fixed by analyst. No, event number; Date (yyyy/mm/dd); Time (UTC; hh:mm:ss); Lat, latitude (° N); Long, longitude (° W); Depth (km); Mag, Nuttli magnitude (MN). Comments: N.B., New Brunswick.

Table S2. Earthquakes within 15 km of the Stoney Creek Oil and Gas Field (center, 45.97° N, 64.73° W; period, 19750101−20150131; Geological Survey of Canada(GSC) earthquake database, http://www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/, last accessed May 2015). No, event number; Date (yyyy/mm/dd); Time (UTC; hh:mm:ss); Lat, latitude (° N); Long, longitude (° W); Depth (km); Mag, Nuttli magnitude (MN) except as noted for local magnitude (ML). Comments: N.B., New Brunswick.

Table S3. Focal depth solutions of southeastern New Brunswick earthquakes, 1980−2014. No, event number; Date (yyyy/mm/dd); Time (UTC; hh:mm:ss); Lat, latitude (° N); Long, longitude (° W); Depth (km); Mag, Nuttli magnitude (MN) except as noted for local magnitude (ML). Comments: N.B., New Brunswick.

Table S4. Earthquakes of the time period September 2009−January 2015, located between latitudes 46.15° and 45.5° N and longitudes 65.75° and 64.5° W (Geological Survey of Canada [GSC], 2015). g refers to focal depth fixed by analyst.

Table S5. Interpretation of the sonic log of velocities measured in well A-67 (Corridor Resources, 2014).

Table S6. The velocity model between the 20140410 epicenter and stations SRNB and WCNB.

Table S7. Events used in the velocity inversion. No, event number; Date (yyyy/mm/dd); Time (UTC; hh:mm:ss); Lat, latitude (° N); Long, longitude (° W); Depth (km); Mag, Nuttli magnitude (MN). Comments: N.B., New Brunswick; QC, Quebec. g refers to focal depth fixed by analyst.
