Hayward Fault Earthquake 140th Anniversary Reading List
October 21, 2008 marks the 140th anniversary of the 1868 Hayward earthquake, which was the first great "San Francisco earthquake" and one of the most damaging earthquakes in the nation's history. The Seismological Society of America is commemorating this event by creating a reading list of articles previsouly published in BSSA. They are organized in 7 relevance categories:
| A | Research papers primarily focused on the 1868 Hayward earthquake unrelated to current research. |
| B | Research papers using field observations collected after the 1868 Hayward earthquake as primary source material for the study. |
| C | Current research that refers to the 1868 Hayward earthquake as an historical example of Bay Area earthquakes. |
| D | Current research that mentions either 1868 or the Hayward fault in the text or the bibliography. |
| E | Current research associated with the Hayward-Calaveras-Roger Creek fault. |
| F | Bay Area Planning or Public Policy. |
| G | Current research into geodetic triangulation studies of fault slip or fault movement in relation to Bay Area earthquakes. |
Papers listed with a "(FREE)" indication can be accessed by anyone free of charge. They are included in a special collection on the online journal site.
The remainder of the articles are free to SSA members and GeoScience World subscribers. Non-members can read the abstract (if one exists), but must pay for access to the PDF or full-text of the article. If you are accessing this from a subscribing institution, you should click here to access this list on our institutional subscriber website.
