Animated, 3D Timeline of the NEIC Response to the Tohoku Earthquake

The attached movie depicts key 'events' in the NEIC response to the Mw 9.0 March 11 2011 Tohoku earthquake, in a timeline format beginning with the origin time of the event. The movie describes, in a step-by-step view, when hypocentral and magnitude information was derived and released, and when subsequent products were compiled and released, during this real-time response. This timeline includes both internal and publicly distributed products—as discussed in the accompanying manuscript—and documents the range of products produced by the NEIC, and their iterative nature.
