SSA Government Relations Co-Chair, Woody Savage, Testifies for House Hearings on the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act (NEHRP)

On 29 July 2014,Woody Savage, co-chair of the SSA Government Relations Committee, testified on behalf of SSA at a hearing on "A Review of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program." The hearing was called by the House Science Committee, Subcommittee on Research and Technology. Dr. Savage was specifically asked to address several important questions about lifelines.

The Committee invited two "panels" of experts, one of them composed of representatives of the four government agencies that have NEHRP-authorized programs. On that panel were SSA Members David Applegate of the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston and Jack Hayes, Director, National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program, National Institute of Standards and Technology, as well as Pramod P. Khargonekar, National Science Foundation, Directorate of Engineering and Roy E. Wright, Deputy Associate Administrator for Mitigation, Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In additional to Dr. Savage, the members of panel two were: Julio A. Ramirez, Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES), Purdue University; Jonathon Monken, Illinois Emergency Management Agency; and Andrew S. Whittaker, Director MCEER, State University of New York at Buffalo.
