Electronic Supplement to
Establishing a versatile 3-D seismic velocity model for New Zealand

by Donna Eberhart-Phillips, Martin Reyners, Stephen Bannister, Mark Chadwick, and Susan Ellis

The following table contains the New Zealand-wide 3-D velocity model parameters Vp and Vp/Vs. Vs and density are calculated and included. Vp and Vs are given in km/s, and density in Mg/m3. The spatial resolution and data distribution are described by the spread functions, SF_Vp and SF_Vp/Vs, as described in the text, where a lower value indicates better resolution and values over 3.5 indicate poor resolution. Cartesian coordinates, x and y, are for the rotated grid shown in Figure 1. Depth is km below sea level. New Zealand map grid coordinates are denoted by Northing-NZ and Easting-NZ.

The table contains peripheral values that extend the x and y grid out to 1200 km. This is done so that the model will be easier to implement. For instance, there are many earthquakes south and north of onshore New Zealand (Figure 1) and ray-tracing routines need to have velocity defined outside of the model grid.
