Assistant Professor of Structural Geology

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geology [or other closely-related disciplines] from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (08/19/2024).

2) Record of or potential for scholarly activity involving students.

3) Demonstrate an ability or interest in working in a multicultural, multiethnic, diverse campus.

4) Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing field methodology and data analysis.

5) Evidence of publications in scholarly journals or planned agenda for research, scholarship, or creative activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Expertise in the broad field of structural geology and tectonics.

2) Expertise in one or more of the following overlapping areas: neotectonics, structural basin analysis, microstructural analysis, rheological processes, metamorphic processes, geospatial analysis, or fluid dynamics in fault zones

3) Record of or potential for research activities in one or more of these areas: neotectonics, structural basin analysis, microstructural analysis, rheological processes, metamorphic processes, geospatial analysis, or fluid dynamics in fault zones

4) Strong interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects related to the field of expertise.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $85,500 – $85,704 annually).

The Department:

The Department of Geography, Geology and the Environment is a multidisciplinary department. Lab facilities include a GIS lab, a geomorphology lab with Ground Penetrating Radar antennas, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and RTK-GPS. Our igneous geochemistry lab is equipped with rock digestion vessels, an Analab, and heavy liquid mineral separation facilities. Polarizing microscopes are available for teaching and for research. A Brucker handheld XRF is available for major and trace element analysis of materials in the field, and our hydrogeology lab is equipped with a SIEVERS TOC Analyzer and a suite of UV-VIS spectrophotometers for both field and laboratory use.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

*A United States (US) Equivalency certification is required for earned/awarded/conferred foreign terminal degrees. The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies by an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
