PDRA in Experimental Rock Deformation and Seismology

Website University of Liverpool

We invite applications from highly motivated individuals for a 3-year position as post-doctoral research associate in experimental rock deformation and seismology. The PDRA will work on a NERC funded grant ‘seisgreen‘, investigating induced seismicity within the context of the green energy transition.

In this project, we will measure earthquake size distributions in laboratory experiments during frictional sliding. Specifically, we will address the hypothesis that the number of small events relative to large events are related to intrinsic frictional properties. Candidates should have a PhD in Geology or Geophysics, particularly those related to rock mechanics or seismology.

The ‘seisgreen’ project, led by Imperial College, also involves University of Bristol, University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh and will provide extensive opportunity for cross disciplinary interactions with the other groups.
