Accessibility Statement

Seismological Society of America is committed to providing an accessible website experience for users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web. SSA uses third-party platforms to distribute its information and it’s own website.

Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility

For its website, SSA follows WCAG 2.2 standards for determining accessibility and as new pages are added, they’re checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features, and remediate any accessibility issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our website is performed using industry-standard tools, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation techniques and readability tests.

Third-Party Accessibility

SSA journals are published on the GeoScienceWorld (GSW) platform. The current Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) statement can be read here.

The GSW platform includes accessibility and assistive technology compatibility features such as screen readers, voice recognition software, keyboard navigation and screen magnification software, as detailed on their website: GSW Accessibility Statement.

GSW uses a third-party platform, Silverchair. All testing and monitoring are done at Silverchair, and updates are provided on their website: Accessibility at Silverchair.

To bring SSA’s content up to standard, we are asking authors submitting new manuscripts to include “alt-text” for figures that is read by screen readers or other assistive technology. SSA is working on a process to add alt-text to archival journal issues and backfiles.
