Copyright Transfer Policy

Upon submission of a manuscript to BSSA or SRL, authors may choose between the Page Charges/Copyright Transfer Agreement or an Open Access/ Creative Commons (CC-BY) license. All TSR articles are published under a CC-BY license.

When transferring copyright to Seismological Society of America (SSA), the authors affirm that the article has not been previously copyrighted and has not been and will not be submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by the journal. With assignment of copyright, the SSA holds the exclusive right to publish and reproduce the article, or any part of the article, in print, electronic and all other media (whether now known or later developed) in any form, in all languages, throughout the world; and the right to license to others to do the same, effective when the article is accepted for publication.

Authors who transfer copyright to SSA may upload the Author’s Accepted Manuscript (AAM) to a publicly available repository without an embargo. However, such copies must be posted to the repository under a non-exclusive license to host the AAM, not under a CC-BY or other Creative Commons license, which is not compliant with SSA’s copyright transfer policy. Instead, authors may choose to publish their articles Open Access.

Authors choosing to publish Open Access retain copyright of their articles but must sign a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license which permits use, redistribution and reproduction in any format provided the original work is properly cited.

If an article incorporates text passages, figures, data or other material from the works of others, it is the author’s responsibility to obtain necessary permission and supply them to the journal.
