26 November 2025— Throughout the past year, SSA members stepped forward to mentor and teach one another. They raised their voices to advocate for federal support of our science and made generous financial gifts to aid our mission.
Together we advanced seismology through:
$88,600+ in grants supporting our community’s scientific efforts since January, including three Community Grants, two Paul Andrew Spudich Travel Grants, seven Global Travel Grants, 23 2025 Annual Meeting Travel Grants and two Travel Grants for the fall Environmental Seismology Conference.
400+ papers published in our three peer-reviewed journals that continue to have a major impact in seismology.
50+ interactions with U.S. policymakers/their staff to advocate for federal support of seismology and other outreach efforts, including letters to Congress and a new policy statement on the link between seismic research/monitoring and U.S. defense.
1+ new international partnership to support the upcoming International Conference on Intraplate and Himalayan Seismology.
9 complimentary courses/mentoring sessions offered to members, including Signal, Not Noise: Crafting a High-Clarity LinkedIn Profile (Sarah Pietraszek-Mattner), Effective Scientific Public Speaking, Slides and Poster Design (Ross Stein) Engage! Steps to Contact Congress Right Now (Elizabeth Duffy), Navigating Career Transitions (Ross Stein and Ellen Shulman), How to Submit a Session Proposal for the Annual Meeting (Peggy Hellweg and Will Levandowski), All About SSA Grants (Nicola Perlwitz), Career and Academic Advice for Members (Ericka Alinne Solano, Andy Michael, Doyeon Kim) and Networking to Find Collaborators and Build Your Career (Emily Brodsky, Paula Figueiredo, Paul Friberg, Victor Tsai).
2 Society meetings, SSA 2025 and the environmental seismology topical conference, focused on strengthening connections and sharing science in our international community.
150+ free introductory SSA memberships provided to students through Society exhibitions at scientific conferences worldwide, including this year’s European Geosciences Union General Assembly, International Meeting for Applied Geoscience and Energy and Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization Science and Technology Conference.
4 awards presented at SSA 2025, honoring pioneering scientists including the late Jeffrey Given and inspiring others to aim high in their professional endeavors.

Thank you to every member who contributed to our mission this year. Renew Today to Stay Connected to the SSA Support System in 2026!
