14 January 2026—SSA announced the results from the 9 January 2026 election, conducted by YesElections!, a third-party independent firm.
Four new members will join the board for three-year terms:
- Aybige Akinci, National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy (INGV)
- Esteban Chavez, Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) at Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica
- Maureen Long, Yale University
- Xiaowei Chen, Texas A&M University
Their terms will begin on 13 April 2026, and they will join these continuing board members for the 2026-27 year:
- Susan Bilek, New Mexico State University
- Ashly Cabas, North Carolina State University
- Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, Western Washington University
- Roby Douilly, University of California, Riverside
- Andreas Fichtner, ETH Zürich
- Debi Kilb, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
- Zhigang Peng, Georgia Tech
- Carl Tape, University of Alaska Fairbanks
- Ivan Wong, Lettis Consultants International
Currently, Susan Bilek serves as the president of the Society and will be succeeded by Zhigang Peng, who will begin his term as president on 13 April.
