The Seismic Record Now Included in Web of Science™

The Seismic Record 5-2 cover19 June 2025—The Seismological Society of America (SSA)’s journal The Seismic Record is now included in Clarivate’s Web of Science™ (WoS) in its Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).

The journal was included in WoS after meeting a set of 28 criteria that measure editorial rigor and publication best practices, and citation activity as a measure to select the most impactful journals in their respective fields.

The ESCI covers more than 8,100 journals spanning 250+ categories.

Indexing in WoS will increase the global discoverability of content in TSR and is a precursor to the journal receiving its debut Impact Factor from Clarivate.

TSR is also indexed by the Directory of Open Access Journals and by Scopus.

“It is wonderful to be recognized for the high impact and overall quality of our papers,” said TSR Editor-in-Chief Keith Koper. “It is a testament to the hard work put in by our authors, reviewers and editors, as well as the SSA publications team.”

Launched in 2021, The Seismic Record is an open-access, online-only journal publishing short form papers covering the entire spectrum of seismological science. The journal provides an outlet to rapidly cover events such as recent earthquakes and current topics of strong significance with seismology, warranting swift peer review and publication within 60 days of submission. Papers must be no more than 3500 words and include no more than 30 references.

The SSA publication program is key to the Society’s core purpose of advancing seismology and the understanding of earthquakes for the benefit of society. The publications help SSA advance scientific integrity, encourage scientific collaboration and foster the professional development of scientists and engineers.
