AON| Impact Forecasting (IF), is looking for a seismologist – senior scientist. This is a full-time position located in Chicago, IL, to build stochastic earthquake catalogs for the US and its territories to quantify and manage catastrophe risk in insurance and reinsurance industry. The position requires utilizing probabilistic models to determine probabilistic loss distribution, average annual loss, and loss at broadband return period range requiring a strong background in probabilistic statistics.
The seismologist – senior scientist will actively be collaborating with software development teams in all aspects of the model development and implementing the methodologies developed by the R&D group at IF.
Minimum Skills and Requirements
MSc or PhD degree in civil engineering (Structural, earthquake, or geotechnical) or geophysics. The area of research should be in engineering seismology or earthquake engineering.
In-depth statistical knowledge, preferably in probabilistic, geospatial statistics and similar.
Excellent programming skills to develop and support model updates, e.g. MATLAB, Pyhton, R, Java, or C++.
Strong large data manipulation skills using SQL, Python, or VBA (must be able to write code and queries)
Excellent interactive mapping/geospatial skills (ArcGIS or QGIS)
Experience in ground motion and site response simulations
Technical support both internal and with clients will be required. Hence, the position requires excellent skills in oral and written communication
Provide critical analysis of modeling results for internal validation of models and explaining results to clients when needed
Capability to work in a team effectively and respect team work environment
Ability to effectively manage multiple project/deliverables
