The California Geological Survey (CGS) provides scientific products and services to help understand the State’s unique geology. Led by the State Geologist, CGS has more than 130 staff and a legacy dating back to the 1850s.

The State Geologist will also contribute to cutting-edge science that supports resiliency in the face of climate change, support watershed management and lead experts identifying valuable mineral resources across the Golden State.

The Ideal candidate will be a California licensed geologist with experience leading large scientific organizations. They will also have;
• Strong communication skills
• Policy setting experience at the state or federal levels
• Experience in setting strategies to address geologic hazards and climate adaptation
