Research Analyst (Seismology)

The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources is seeking applicants for a Research analyst (seismology) for the New Mexico Tech seismic network.

Initial appointment will be for one year, and is then renewable for a second year depending on progress and availability of funding. Applications will be reviewed as received and the position will remain open until filled. The preferred start date is 07/01/2025.

Responsibilities:

•       Earthquake catalog creation and distribution

•       Support, maintenance, and tuning of other existing products

•       Contribute to internal documentation/knowledge base

•       Data visualization, quality assessment, and reporting

•       Respond to outages, and earthquake sequences, during non-business hours as needed.

Required qualifications:

•       Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Computer Science, or a related field

•       Basic knowledge of seismic wave propagation

•       Demonstrated Linux computer scripting and Python programming skills

•       Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables

•       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desired qualifications:

•       Master’s degree in Geoscience, Geophysics, Computer Science, or a related field

•       Familiarity with SeisComp or Earthworm

•       Experience with seismic equipment and fieldwork
