The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), one of the leading engineering academic institutions in Latin America, invites outstanding candidates for a full-time faculty position in the area of Applied Geophysics at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. Although this call is initially intended for Assistant Professor-level candidates, exceptional applications at the Associate Professor level are also welcome.
We are seeking exceptional candidates who integrate observations and methods from both geology and geophysics to address Earth Science questions in marine and/or terrestrial environments, with a particular focus on mineral or hydrological resource exploration purposes. Our priority is to enhance our current expertise in using observations and quantitative analysis to advance the fields of neotectonics, structural geology, paleoclimate, paleomagnetism, thermochronology, geothermal, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and margin and basin evolution. PUC is proud to offer a dynamic and supportive research environment with access to laboratories and basic geophysical instruments such as seismometers, ground-penetrating radars, geophones, and electromagnetic exploration instruments, among others.
While we will consider candidates working anywhere at the interface between geology and geophysics, preference will be given to candidates whose research complements the ongoing Earth Science group at PUC, particularly in areas concerning solid earth resource exploration (geothermal, hydrological, and mineral), as well as geological hazards, e.g., earthquakes, tsunamis, and landslides. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in one or more of the following areas: geochronology, geomorphology, marine geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, geophysics, and geophysical/geological field methods.
