Penn State Geosciences and the Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) Energy Institute has an opening for a postdoctoral scholar in the area of environmental and engineering seismology. The position aims to develop seismic interferometry techniques to processing continuous distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fiber optic data collected at Penn State or other research sites. The research goal of the project is to improve understanding the Earth near surface physical processes (ground water, geohazards, weather etc.). The position will be expected to interact graduate students and lead the research activity in developing DAS data processing algorithms and possible field instrumentation. The position will be in the Department of Geosciences and the EMS Energy Institute at Penn State.
Candidates must hold a PhD in geophysics, or engineering or a related field by the time of hire. The successful candidate should have prior experience in the theory of seismic interferometry and their implementation on processing seismic data. Candidates should have a great record of high-quality research contributions, including published reports, conference papers, and refereed journal papers.
This is a fixed term appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire, with excellent possibility of refunding for an additional year.
